July 2020

 July 6, 2020

A series of fortunate events took place last week.

1)  we were invited to tag along with Lincoln, Maggie and Luke to the aquarium.  I enjoyed making collages of the experience.
The shark eye is my favorite...

2)  Our builder re-stuccoed one side of our home to improve the original sloppy job.  Carlie made us lemonade cupcakes.  Sweet!  Thank you.
We watched and heard fireworks sitting on our front porch.  For 1 1/2 hours Herriman and a neighboring subdivision set off a memorable show with plenty of bass.

3)  Mr Claunch was my HS Algebra teacher.  Smart guy.  Laughed at his own jokes. However, he struggled to impart his knowledge to his students.
Frustration.  I can relate.  Can you?

4)  The 4 Creek/Adams kids threw together a coloring contest.  I hope they won’t mind if I extend it until the 24th and include the Howells too.

Don’t these look great?  Maggie and Luke saw me coloring and asked to join in.  Maggie needs to send me her finished page.

5)   Faith yoked with consistent action fills the heart with kindness, the mind with wisdom and understanding, and the soul with peace and love.

6)  Lane continues to attend PT twice a week to strengthen his knee. And Wednesday his surgeon gave him the go ahead to begin playing pickle ball.  Yippy!

7)  Our door is always open.  Come visit anytime.  The Scotts popped over on Friday.  The Bells come today.  Matthew drops in on occasion.  Luke and Maggie cover the 2 mile distance on bikes.  Kylie and Joseph have special invites to spend time getting better acquainted with us.  We hope to see Anissa while her parents are staying here.  Jerel almost makes it over, but stops short at the pickle ball courts.  ;o}   Anyone else?

Have a super week y’all!  What’s new with you?

Stay kind people.

July 18th ~ Jerel says HELLO to the BIG FIVE-O

July 19, 2020

Hello fantastic familiar familia!

Photos from the past few lazy daze of summer.  Many of you spent a few wet days rafting down the Snake River.  We are glad you are all home safe.

Jami, Danika & Kamden arrived from Mississippi.  They sold their home in record time and will soon be residing in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Until then they are calling DayBreak home, and shortening a pink and blue countdown chain until they can hug their daddy again.

1)  Picnic in the shade of our garage.  Bike rides, painted rocks, let’s jump...
...G’pa sure can make these kids laugh.

2)  Foam sticker crafts, splash pad with Gerber cousins,

3)  We have the meats!!!  Lincoln got a new grill and tried out a selection of meat; frog legs, dogs, burgers and ribs.

4)  Covid, quarantine, political uproar, freedom of speech threatened, temple attendance restricted, to mask or not to mask.

I know that our Heavenly Father IS in charge.  This brings me peace.

Make this the best week since last week.  ;o}

Coming soon:
21st  Jerry is a handsome 39
23rd  Taggart will be a dynamic twelve
24th   Luke becomes a totally terrific teen!
25th   It’s Maggie’s day to be the birthday queen and turn 11

July 26, 2020

Happy daze are here again!

1)  Carlie and Jonathan got engaged!  Danika and Kamden met Cookie Dough.  Jerel turned 50!

2)  Misc pics:  Painting rocks (and fingers), we have a resident sloth, rare cousin time for Gerber’s & Robison’s.

3)  Last Thursday we took a drive to visit Jerry, Erin, Ava, Brennan & Kaelyn.  The weather in Eugene, Oregon was unbelievably gorgeous.  This time of year EVERYONE wants to live in the GPNW - Great Pacific NorthWest.  We visited Ava’s Bake Shop, found a few GeoCaches, played games, and thoroughly loved every minute.  Thanks for hosting us!

4)  We transferred north to Albany last evening, arriving ‘justin’ time to save Mickey.  Justin taught us how to make egg McMuffins - altho his real expertise is on a Wendy’s grill and on Dairy Queen's assembly line.

5)  Elder M. Russell Ballard says “While technology has often been a blessing in my life, it can also be a distraction that places a barrier between us and our ability to hear the Lord’s voice.  I tell my grandchildren that they should set aside quiet time each day to think about their lives and ponder what the Lord wants them to do.
(Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)
May we each strive for quiet moments, free from distraction, to feel the presence of the Lord in our lives.

6)  Justin is celebrating his HS graduation ALL.  SUMMER.  LONG.   HIs official ceremony is August 27th…and the program type is yet to be determined.
Go Bulldogs!  We are so proud of you Justin.  We celebrated today because we don’t know where in the world we may be in August…  ;o}

Please let us hear from you;  because we are nosy, and love you with all our hearts, and so we can stay up-to-date on your family happenings.

Coming this week:
27th  ~  Our crabbing and fishing day - Newport Beach, OR
28th  ~  We leave Albany, OR and drive to Lake Stevens, WA
31st  ~  Chloe is great turning 8!
Our return date to SLC is still flexible.  (Thank you Jami & kids for watering our plants.)

We love you forever,

June 2020

 Week 1 - June 7, 2020

If all the people on the planet were lined up end to end I would always choose the kids and g’kids that God gave me!  Ain’t it marvelous that God knew who I needed most in my life and who might need me once in a while.

1)  Lane continues to heal, do physical therapy, and just be plain amazing!!!

2)  Elder Joseph Hill returned home!  "Golly, we missed you."  There was a parade in his honor.

3)  This is how I rank weather phenomenon.  Worst first.
     1st  WIND
     2nd  anything but WIND.

Wind, dust and sprinklers produced the nifty mess on our home.
Our area will be a construction zone for another year, maybe two.
The lawn next to us is giving way to 2 homes this year (eventually).

4)  Hatcher called to gather intel on 'G’ma Carolyn’ for Hansen Family History Night.  He’s a cutie!

5)  Quiz:  Which grandkid’s concoction is this?

6)  Violet has been reading in the Book of Mormon again.
Can you name this villain (left) and hero (right)?

7)   We hosted our first Mermaid Dinner for the Gerber’s last Friday.

8)  Today we were stunned to participate in a Zoom piano recital featuring Sabrina, Adelaide, Slater, Audrey and Emeline (& Shalaun).  Bravo maestro, distinguished musicians all!

9)
The Beatles are liars I say.  Liars!
Truth: The 4 basic human necessities are air, water, food and shelter.    “Mwah", just the same.

10)  This has been a week of tumult in our country.  Massive protests, sometimes riots, have blanketed our cities.  George Floyd died at the hands of a thug cop.  Too many thugs all around.
Sadly our deserving youth, graduates of 2020, are blocked from assembling to hold prom, musical performances, dance concerts, baccalaureate, or in any way celebrate like they would love to do.  My heart is heavy, though it is wrapped in gratitude.
Congrats 2020 Howell Graduates!
Samantha Howell
&
Justin Howell

Important dates:
June 5th ~ The Scotts mark their 7th year of married bliss
June 7th ~ Today Erin is an excellent 35!
June 7th ~ Stephanie celebrates being 44!
June 7th ~ Jon makes 53 looks good!
June 10th ~ Sophie will be 6, but tease her about turning 5.  She hates that!
June 11th ~ Sarah blows out 23 candles - yea!

Week 2 - June 14, 2020

Greetings to our favorite peeps on the planet,

Another week in our personal history book.

1) random visits and happenings.
Lane continues his home therapy post knee replacement.  It’s fresh pea season.  A gift for Sophie, a walk with Maggie, ‘at home’ encounter w “Aunt Ginger”.  Samantha earns special graduation honors.

2)  a splendid, yet difficult hike to Silver Lake with new friends.

3) “ready...sing everybody!”🎶🎵
Steph is 44!

4) 🎵Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world🎶.
(A song I learned in bible school, growing up near Mossyrock, WA.)

Today we returned to church...smaller groups, shortened service, masks optional, social distancing. Different, but it just felt right.  I am thankful for Jesus Christ and His prophet to guide us.

Thanks to all of you for making us proud and pleased to be associated with you. Our family is not complete without each and every one.  Stay strong, show continued kindness, be involved in your community to make it better.

We appreciate shared meals with Greg & Jennifer, the Bullocks, the Daybreak Howells, a zoom mtg with Hansen’s, a mini Girls Nite, a new great granddaughter Allison Rae Hill... and feedback from ANYONE!  We care about you and want to share what’s happening.

We love you forever🥰❤️😍😘,
Momma C & Dad Lane (G&G Howell)

Week 3 - June 21, 2020

To all you super-human dad’s and future super dad's.  You are hero's to your children.  And to all the girls who appreciate and admire you!!!

1)  We had lunch with friends.  Lane almost missed the entire meal.  “please wait here"

2)  Lane found this gas grill on KSL ads for cheap.  A good scrub and coat of exterior high heat paint and voila…Sorry, no photo of the finished piece.

3)  Dad’s day surprise for Lane.  Our outdoor screen porch, without the screen, or the fence, or the portico.  But plenty of furniture.
A visit with my mom and Dave.
A zoom call with 9 Howell kids.  It's been a great day!  But it’s not over yet...

4)  CarLa came to visit this afternoon.  Enroute from New Hampshire to Oregon.  It was a gas!!!

5)  We started back to church earlier in June, just once a month.  So grateful!
This is our new building.  Just a short walk up the street.  Beautiful.

Coming this week:  Handsome Grandson bdays!
June 24th   Heston, have a blast being 7.
June 24th   Happy “cake-&-presents” day to 15 year old Danny.
June 24th   David extinguishes 17 candles.
June 27th   Birthday wishes for 4 year old Russell.

Have a great week.

Week 4 - June 29, 2020

Marvelous Monday Memo:

Our Spring Fling is nearly over.  In fact today we stayed tucked in our house sipping hot cocoa and dipping toast.  It’s been stormy, and cold.

Bring on summer!  I think it will arrive this weekend, in time for the 4th of July.

1)  Last Monday we hosted a “backyard” shaved ice night in the shared driveway.
My RS Prez stopped by for another visit.  She brings water, a message of encouragement and news from our little Care Center Branch.  Just trying to be like Jesus.
Saturday we cleaned our new stake center prior to it’s dedication yesterday.  I snapped a photo of this cool chalkboard art.  WHO is ever going to erase that!?

2)  The Gerber’s local dance company took great pains to finish the dance season with Covid Concerts.  They danced in small groups on an outdoor tennis court to a small but grateful audience.  2 guests per dance.  6 Gerber performances.  I only attended Callie’s dance, then played with kids during the others.  It was fab!  Callie, you da best!

3)  My artistic, fun, and goofy little brother is having his first girl - a granddaughter!!!  Since most of you have met him I thought you’d like to see that Chris and Lorie aren’t even a little excited…they are over the moon thrilled!  Lorie prepared the food, blew balloons and Chris hung the balloons and did the bathroom mirror art.

4)  Remember last week was handsome g’son week?  Here’s proof.  Russell, David, Danny and Heston had birthdays.
As a bonus we were able to see ALL of Greg’s outstanding kids - after a 4 year hiatus.  It was a good day.  (Thatcher is also pictured because he is so adorable.)

5)  Are we afraid to speak out for what we believe is right and just and merciful?

Coming soon:
June 30th ~ Our first great-g’child, Hailee Ann Hill celebrates being 4.
July 4th ~  Independence Day!  Have a picnic/BBQ with folks you love and who don’t have covid.
July 13th ’til August whenever ~ Jami, Danika and Kamden will come visit prior to moving with Chris back to Cincinnati.
America without her soldiers is like God without his angels.  This is a great country, filled with beauty and an abundance of beautiful people.  I am confident that the majority are sane, kind, and inclusive.  Be one of those beautiful people.

We love you forever!
