February 2021

2.28.2021

Hello fabulous, forthright and flexible featured family,

This week’s picture:

1)  In preparation to publish our home for rent on Zillow I took photos to highlight its' unique features.
2)  For instance, the map wall.
3)  I removed over 112 map pins.
4)  And without them, I think the wall looks even better.  Perhaps not as interesting but nice.
5)  I know at least one of you was curious enough to search out our listing.  It’s down now.
6)  Surprisingly we had many ‘hits’, 3 showings, still others on a waiting list.
7)  So many interested that we deactivated the ad yesterday.
8)  It appears we’ll move out May 1st.
9)  That leaves nearly 10 weeks until we temporarily vacate.  We’ll be BACK!
10)  10 weeks. 10 local families.  We look so forward to hosting each family individually and planning something fun to do.  Can we begin with Tom’s family this Thursday, March 5th for tapioca?  Everyone else, we suggest a Sunday afternoon or evening. (Ideas: games, food, shaved ice...) If you are interested please choose your preferred date (1st and 2nd choice).  March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, April 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th?  (We DoorDash Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.)  If you are not interested, or cannot find time, we will come find you after our retirement trip to Mongolia (May-June).

Dates to remember:
February 29th - Tesila can’t wait 3 years to celebrate her birthday, so she’s fudging and eating cake on March 1st.
March 6th - Emeline will be 15 on Saturday.  So close to driving, she can almost taste it.  Don’t even think about the countdown to dating.
March 7th - Carrie & Lincoln mark 2 decades as a married couple.  That’s T-W-E-N-T-Y short years!

Let us know about a possible date that we can host your family.  For Jerry & Erin, Cameron & Kim, Britni & Brian, Jami & Chris, we’ll bring the party to you sometime.

We love you forever,

This one was too easy.  It’s at the heart of everything I do.

YOU.

1.  "In family relationships love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time.” Dieter F Uchtdorf

2.  “At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal.
You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, a parent.”  Barbara Bush

3.  “Family time is sacred time and should be protected and respected.”  Boyd K Packer

4.  “While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.”  Angela Schwindt

5.  “It is more important than ever to make our families the center of our lives and the top of our priorities.” L Tom Perry

6.  “When in doubt, choose the kids. There will be plenty of time later to choose work.”  Anna Quindlen

7. “Children will not remember you for the material things you provided, but for the feeling that you cherished them.”  Richard L. Evans

8. “No other success can compensate for failure in the home.”  David O. McKay

9.  “When you love what you have, you have everything you need.”  Unknown

10. “The ultimate treasures on earth and in heaven are our children.”  Elder Dallin H. Oaks

Hmmm. Please tell me your favorite family quote, favorite family pastime, or favorite family member ;o}

Important dates to remember:
24th  Britni celebrates her 38th birthday!
27th  Chris marks his 41st “cake’n’presents” day.
29th This is Tesila’s anti-birthday as leap year is non-existent this year.  I’m confused.  Which week do I not recognize it?

We love you forever,

2.14.2021

Especially today, I hope you feel how much I love you and how grateful I am to have you in my life.

Last night the snow fell soft and crisp and white as snow should be.  Last weekend it fell brown and invaded by dust injected into the storm clouds blown in from the western desert.  White snow beats brown snow.  And yellow snow.
[picture of the week]

* Today is Valentine’s Day.  Or, as men like to call it, Extortion Day.
* Do you like raisins?  How do you feel about a date?
* If I was in charge of the alphabet I would put “u” and “i” together.
* Today I will enjoy long, romantic walks to the fridge.
* I love you because you are almost exactly like me and I’m the best.
* Love is a dream that came to life when we met.
* If I had to choose between loving you and breathing, I would use my last breath to say I love you.
Miles apart, but close at heart.
* Love is the greatest adventure.
* I love being married.  It’s so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.

Tell me how you feel about Valentine’s Day…on a scale of 1 to 10.  (10 being sublime)

Hugs and kisses and Valentine wishes.  xoxo

Dear sweet, wonderful, marvelous, accomplished family!

We love you each so very much. These past 11 months have brought unpleasant, unexpected events into our lives. But we've observed how you've braced for the unknown and embraced necessary change. We are proud of you. You have taught us to look ahead, keep moving, and shout out "life is what you make it".

[picture of the week]

1) not many pics this week.
2) I snapped this one before the Superbowl.
3) Cam & Kim stayed over a few days as they dropped by for Judy Dunford's 80th birthday.  (We happened to be in Ohio)
4) Our home is our oasis.
5) a brave couple stopped by to meet and visit from the front porch, bearing a loaf of hot bread.
6) We DoorDash 3-4 days a week.
7) our winter has been mild.
8) Looks like tomorrow will be nice pickle ball weather.
9) Brady just won his 7th ring. 🐐!

Okay, alright. I’m cheating. It’s another collage. But what choice do I have when I visit the bustling metropolis of Cincinnati...or more precisely the suburb of Mainesville - which is the epitome of ‘bustling’.  True that!

1) our first flight in 13 months!  ✈️Marvelous!
2) tiger cub Kamdem.  🐯Huggable!
3) Jami blew out 34 flammin' brookies.🍪 Sweet!
4) Chris hugs Danika, plays, flys, drove to Nashville to fly some more🚁. 2nd vaccine!
5) specialties: grilled mac'n'chee, flying pig (w kettle chips & bacon), grilled chee donut 🍩
6) Loveland castle 🏰
7) Purple People Pedestrian Bridge crosses the Ohio between Newport, Kentucky and Cincinnati. [Of 9 bridges over the Ohio River into Cincinnati only one is purple and only one for people💜]
8) Cincy is home of National Underground Railroad Freedom Museum.  [Revealing stories of courage, cooperation, and perseverance] Tragically, unfreedom is still a thing to be overcome.

Lane & I focused on family this visit. But from a previous trip (2017) I can vouch for #5-8...and more!
Watch for a Tom'n'Chee sandwich coming to a Springhouse Village neighborhood near you.

Special events added:
January 28th- Spencer is now Super Six!
January 30th- my Mother & David wed 6 yrs
February 3rd- Genevieve turned THREE!!!
February 4th- Callie Jo is 3 dozen TODAY!
February 4th- Rayson advances to 43.

 Blast from the past!

1) I need better photographers
2) today we crossed paths with 4 outstanding Filipinos we met in 2011.
3) the occasion was Michiele's baby blessing
4) Michiele had been an impressive young teenager who played the piano or conducted hymns at church.
5) Cherry was inspired to serve a mission to Australia, migrate to America, start a family, teach Tagalog at the MTC and became a professor at BYU in Filipino studies this year.
6) Bro & Sis Ramilo flew to the USA for the blessing of their 1st g'child. Luis sacrificed time with his wife and 4 kids to work 8 month tours on cruise ships.
7) Luis cooks famous filipino sweet spaghetti.
8) Filipino Saints thrill to see church HQ's
9) they thought the roads were treacherous today. They forget we drove in their country. No contest!
10) Filipino's are gracious, humble, God-fearing and loving people. I'm impressed that they are the last who shall one day be FIRST.

Jan 26 ~ Shalaun starts a small blaze
Jan 26 ~ Sam & Jamie celebrate 1 decade as a couple.
Jan 26 ~ we fly standby to Cincinnati
Jan 29 ~ Jami will be 34!

Good evening dear ones,

1)  Perry’s wife Mary had an unfortunate fall last November.
2)  She fainted as she returned home from grocery shopping.
3)  Mary lay in the garage for an hour until discovered by Perry.
4)  An ambulance conveyed her to the hospital.
5)  Her hip was repaired with surgery.
6)  2 months later she is healed enough to drive herself to PT.
7)  Today she celebrates 84 years.
8)  Last night we surprised her with a small dinner party.
9)  Mary is the valiant mother of a down syndrome son, Dan.
10)  Dan, Robert, Becky and Steve live at home in Pleasant Grove.  Perry, Jr. lives in Alberta and Carmen lives near Toronto.

This week:
18th ~  Martin Luther King, Jr Day

Hello amigos and chicas,

Most of the photos I take are required proof of door dash deliveries.  So I had to get creative with this one.

1)  It’s Taco EVERYday!
2)  It’s raining tacos, out of the sky. Just open your mouth and close your eyes.
3)  The most important thing in life is life itself.  False. Tacos.
4)   I eat my tacos over an empty tortilla so when stuff falls out -BOOM- another taco.
5)   Lane made guacamole today, we had NO chips so he got creative with the graham crackers.  That man is loco!
6)   My tacos arrived with a fork on the plate.  I can only guess it’s there to stab taco thieves.
7)  Chuck Norris called.  If you have tacos, he will find them and he will eat them.
8)  This is what happens when you don’t vote.  DelTaco “Voted Best Mexican Restaurant 2020”
9)  Taco Tuesday sends a horrible message to our children.  They need to know that tacos are an option, no matter what day it is.
10)  Ladies, if he:
    - is hot
    - always smells good
    - makes you smack your lips
    - leaves you feeling happy
He’s NOT your man.  He’s a TACO.

Hee hee.

Now for one serious bit:  Name a food that everyone loves but you do not.  Me first…olives.

January 10th  - Stephanie & Darren Hill celebrates 7 years of being married.
January 11th  - Carlie is smart enough to not gamble at age 21.
January 14th  - Meredith's ’twin’ is 47
January 14th  - Cameron’s twin is 37

[Picture of the week]

Okay peeps, yesterday we downed all CHRISTmas decorations...

1) I decorated my porch for g’kids
2) I think only Sophie, Savannah and Claire saw it.  Oh, and Tom’s kids!
3) This porch decoration took 1st place in the Springhouse Village porch decoration contest.
4) pool noodles make swell candy canes.
5) the wind blew an eye off of the large gingerbread man.
6) next, the wind blew the entire gingerbread man into the dirt lot next door.
7) Run, run, as fast as you can.  You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man! (But I did.)
8) There were only 2 homes entered in the contest.  The other porch took 1st place for Christmas lights.
9) I’m so glad my porch is back to normal.
10)  I hope I see more of you ringing our doorbell in 2021.

Coming soon:
Jan 5th  Sadie in an incredible 5 years old
Jan 6th  Sarah Hill becomes Mrs. Lindeman (welcome Mathew)
Jan 9th  Audrey is a totally terrific teenager
Jan 10th  Darren & Stephanie will have been married 7 years!

[Picture of the week]

Dearest children,

Pictured are 12 sweet breads in the form of candy canes.

1) The week of Christmas I wanted very badly to make a version of my mother’s Swedish Tea Rings.
2) Rather than a ring I form my sweet rolls in the form of candy canes and fill them with apple pie filling.
3) the taste of peppermint is absent.
4) They end up tasting like apple strudel.
5) Callie came over and supervised the project from beginning to end.
6) her recipe for sweet rolls is my favorite.
7) ...but it’s Callie’s expert touch with yeast that saved the day.
8) we spent a wonderful evening together.
9) Eleven out of 12 neighbors were delighted and impressed! (one was out if town, so by default Lane was impressed)
10) thanks so much Callie. Next time, I'm on my own...

Birthdates to remember:
Dec 28th   Lincoln lights up a room w 43 candles.
Jan 2nd    Michael moves past 2020 without hesitation.

Good morning all you little Christmas elves!  I know you.  You are each sneaking around doing fun and memorable things for your family and neighbors and friends and co-workers and teachers and strangers.  You are ministering angels to some, and they will never forget you…unless you are anonymous or they live in a memory care facility.

1)  Our tree is up and we have the most unique tree skirt made entirely out of baskets.
2) For convenience we mailed gifts to the AdamsHansens and Robisons.
3) Cam sneaked into town and gathered his, then drove back to Oregon with Anissa.
4) Tom stopped, located his (and Sam’s) and absconded with them both.  (Thank you!)
5) The Bells are visiting today and we’ll force them to find and take theirs.
6) This leaves unclaimed baskets for Gerber’sHillsGregBullocksL&C Howells (Daybreak - lower), Kelleys and Scotts (and my Mother!)
7)  The latters have a decision to make.
8)  a- stop by and claim your basket by the 27th…or…
9)  b- invite us to deliver it to your door by the 27th.
10)  For ANY who would like to come visit on Christmas Day we will put out a CHRISTmas buffet from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

We look forward to our get-to-gethers however they happen.

Please let us know when you would like to receive your Christmas basket.  And share pictures and memories of YOUR special 2020 Christmas.

24th  CHRISTmas eve - the excitement, setting out milk-n-cookies, sleepless children, tired parents
25th  CHRISTmas day - singing Happy Birthday to baby Jesus, two thousand & twenty is a lot of candles, but infinity is a tad more  ;o}

P.S.  Those still uncertain as to the number of sheep and shepherds on Uncle Chris’ Oreo sculpt, here are the answers.
# of sheep = 3 (sheep, sheep, babe)
# of shepherds = 2 (shepherd, babe)
Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God as well as the Good Shepherd.

Hello favorite people on planted earth.  (haha)

This week’s photo comes by way of my baby brother Christopher.  He is huge.  Has lifted weights with the original HULK (Lou).  A real tender hearted man.  Father of 3 sons.  An amazing grandfather.  The most talented being I know personally.  Works in acrylics, oils, chalks, watercolors, crayolas, markers, pencils, ink pen, playdoh, porcelain, bronze, mashed potatoes, pancake batter, oreo cookie cream…

Titled: Oh Come Let Us Ador-eo Him

1) Jesus is the reason for the season.
2)  if 3 wise women...they would have arrived on time, helped deliver the baby, brought more practical gifts, cleaned the stable & made a casserole.
3)  how does he get the star to extend our beyond the cookie?
4)  Chris says “My toughest Oreo cookie sculpt to date.  I feel I brushed up against insanity on this one."
5)  Can you find 2 lambs?
6)  follower Betsy says “Damn dude.  If you eat that one you are going to hell.”
7)  Got Milk?
8)  Chris again "I thought about tossing it several times early on.”
9)  What is your favorite Oreo flavor?
10)  I have the coolest family!  That includes YOU!

CHRISTmas greetings!

Picture of this past week.  12.5.2020

1)  Lighting the World 2020…starting with our house.
2)  Shame on me.  I endangered the lives of two precious g’sons.
3)  Jerel volunteered to supervise.
4)  I’m not sure what Lane is doing here…maybe pacing and worrying.
5)  Before I met Lane I used to hang my own lights from the roof of a bi-level home.  I was completely NUTS.  And 7 months pregnant.  I am so blessed to have 4 children.
6)  We drove home late last night and Lane saw CHRISTmas lights on his house for the first time in 72 years.  I had no idea!
7)  I am trying to turn my house into a modest Candyland this week.
8)  My front door is now wrapped badly in red wrapping paper.  Ugh.
9)  Why, oh why, didn’t we pay the upgrade price to add outlets under the eves???  (probably becuz Lane never intended to string roof lights.)
10)  THANK YOU Josh and Matt!

Okay, this week’s picture is ONE collage of pictures.  Thanksgiving summary.  Sorry, I didn’t have photos of each of your tables.
1)  RIP Big Bird.

6)  Potatoes remains my favorite food.
7)  I made my very first sweet potato dish. Scrump-dilly-icious!
8)  We refused to prepare filler - appetizers, salad, raw veggie plate, jello. More tummy space for the essentials.
9)  We tried DoorDashing after dinner but stores had the good sense to stay closed.
10)  What is your favorite leftover turkey recipe?

Greetings to our amazing family.  Let’s begin with a smile or a chuckle…

1)  Caption anyone?
A pure bread dog!   ;o}

2)  A sense of humor is essential.  Many of us have seen memes like this during the uncertain days of waiting.
Lane is so invested in politics that he called the presidential race Wednesday morning.

3)
Welcome to Joe Biden, 46th President-elect & Kamala Harris as VP (and the first women to serve as such).  Historic indeed!

May the the vast majority of media, Washington insiders and Hollywood elites stand up for them, put an immediate halt to investigations of suspected wrong-doings, overlook their weaknesses and failings and credit them for every good thing they accomplish.  We have reached that point.

4)  The Hansens held an open house yesterday.  What a fun, fun family.

5)  quote by President Russell M Nelson, April 2020 Ensign

Here and now, we live in a time of turmoil.  Earthquakes and tsunamis wreak devastation, governments collapse, economic stresses are severe, the family is under attack, and divorce rates are rising.  We have great cause for concern.  But we do not need to let our fears displace our faith.  We can combat those fears by strengthening our faith.

Why do we need such resilient faith?  Because difficult days are ahead.  Rarely in the future will it be easy or popular to be a faithful Latter-day Saint.  Each of us will be tested.  The Apostle Paul warned that in the latter days, those who diligently follow the Lord “shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12).  That very persecution can either crush you into silent weakness or motivate you to be more exemplary and courageous in your daily lives.

Family happenings coming soon:
November 10th ~ Scott can legally drive solo.
November 14th ~ Matthew gets the nod to vote…in the 2024 Presidential election  ;o}

Stay awesome people.  Let your upcoming CHRISTmas season be bright.  Follow the leader…our Savior.

We love you forever,

Also this…

You will have days when you will be discouraged. So pray for courage not to give up! Sadly, some who you thought were your friends will betray you. And some things will simply seem unfair.
However, I promise you that as you follow Jesus Christ, you will find sustained peace and true joy.
- President Russell M Nelson, April 2020 Ensign

It’s a new day, a new week, a new month.  And I have a new 'do'

1)  Lane & I Dashed yesterday, Halloween.  I didn’t have time to curl my hair so I ran to the basement and found my scarecrow wig.
(photo from 2014)

2) I wore it all day as we DoorDashed.  I heard these comments.
Nice hair.
Who are you?
Is that a wig?
Hi Pippi Long-stocking.
And my favorite, “Look!  It’s Wendy at McDonalds!  Haha.”

3)  Now, a bit of history.  11.2.1947  The first and only flight of billionaire Howard Hughes’  “Spruce Goose” flying boat occurred in Long Bech Harbor, CA.  It flew about a mile at an altitude of 70 feet.  Costing $25 million, the 200-ton plywood 8-engine Hercules was the world’s largest airplane, designed, built and flown by Hughes.  It later became a tourist attraction alongside the Queen Mary ship at Long Beach and has since been moved to McMinnville, Oregon.

4)  And then there’s this...

5) Having faith in Jesus Christ is to trust that because of his atoning sacrifice He will correct all injustices, restore all things lost, and mend all things broken, including hearts — He will make all things right, not leaving any detail unattended”.  ~ Lynn G Robbins

Family happenings:
November 1st  -  Energetic Kamden turned 3 today!
November 3rd  -  VOTE!  Many of of you already have.
Speaking of Elections.  James K Polk was born 11/2/1795.
After one term as the 11th President of the U.S. he declined
to run for a second term, saying he was "exceedingly relieved”
at the completion of his presidency.
November 6th -  Claire becomes a delightful 1 year old.
