Days 50 to 56 of a 100 day
mega road trip across Canada

Day 50 ~ Sept 15th
DRIVING DAY
Drive day - point A to point B
Drive to the Sault St. Marie Branch
(We skipped the potluck and selfishly enjoyed eating
the package of Chips Ahoy cookies we'd brought.
Balanced meal.)
Drive to the Soo locks on St Mary's River.
Drive through Amish countryside in Ontario Province.
Drive to the town of North Bay.
Retire early with Howard (Johnson).
Camping has been rain delayed.

Day 51 ~ Sept 16th
Ottawa, ONTARIO
A brilliant day in Canada's capital.

A beavertail = a lavish scone (chocolate banana).

Not one single tent in the chilly campground
…except for this little red number.
This man loves to play with matches and a hatchet.
We are safe. We are happy.
We are grateful for our opportunities.

Day 52 ~ Sept 17th
Montreal, QUEBEC
We took a progressive approach to food today.
Appetizer - soup at a street cafe
Pre dinner snack - sandwich wrap at a corner restaurant
Entree - pasta at an Italian eatery
Dessert - filled cookies at a sweet bakery

Day 53 ~ Sept 18th
Quebec City, QUEBEC
Continental breakfast condiments
(The most we've seen anywhere.)
Harvest time
Mont Morency Falls, 275 foot drop (Niagra is only 175')
We hiked up and over the foot bridge.
Our house - temperature ranges 46 to 65 degrees.
Chilly but tolerable. Hot showers and great laundry facilities)

Day 54 ~ Sept 19th
OLD TOWNE QUEBEC
A gorgeous day to be in the inspiring city of Quebec. 
(Sam was here with us in 2006) We miss Sam!

In October we will return to the USA and stay awhile.

Day 55 ~ Sept 20th
NEW BRUNSWICK
This part of Canada is 70% French, and 30% English. And when you meet one of the 70%, they are 100% French!

We have now been north of Maine. That means COLD!!
No camping tonight. Leaves are beginning to turn.
If you never come here, this is what you are missing a lot of.

A beautiful welcome center. Fun people
to talk to us, mostly in broken English.
We remember home. We think. But before we return, it is off to Province #8. (New Brunswick is #7). Can anyone name all 10 Provinces of Canada without looking them up? If you are able to, let us know and we have an exciting surprise for you. (You will want this!) This is open to grandkids, too. If you get 5 or more, you are eligible for the prize. Who can name the most? Just email us back with the names you come up with, BEFORE you check a map or talk to anyone! In case of a tie, the earliest entry wins. (Be careful. Canada has 3 Territories that are NOT Provinces. Incorrectly naming a Territory as a Province counts against your score, but if you can properly identify the Territories as Territories, they will ADD to your score). 13 points possible.

The day started innocently.
